A collection of pages I think will look good on your wall from the last twenty years of comics. (Where did the time go?) 30% of Each sale will go to MacMillan Cancer Support at macmillan .org.uk
Macmillan Cancer Support is available in any UK hospital with a cancer unit. Nurses train in cancer treatment, and pain control procedures for five years to have MacMillan status. The charity does an invaluable job for patients who have been diagnosed with cancer.
It is obviously a very stressful time for both the sufferer and surrounding family. Once the illness has been confirmed everything changes, not only the big things but many small important things too. In the majority of cases the treatment is as harrowing for the patient as the cancer itself. The loved ones can easily be lost in medical jargon given by busy doctors. The stress this brings can seriously undermine any recovery. MacMillan nurses have been trained to help both patients and loved ones to understand the medical procedure and provide pain control methods.
The absence of an affected loved one can throw a home into disarray. The patient could be the main income provider or caregiver, or could be a son or daughter who speaks the only english in the household. Mac Millan nurses provide home help to do everything from getting the shopping to administering treatment and interpreting. They also give financial help to families facing eviction due to cancer.
When my dad developed cancer in dec 2001 it was Macmillan nurses who came around every day to help my devastated mother to administer his treatment. Dad, who had ridden a bike to work 28 miles a day up till retirement, was unable to walk any distance by march 2002. It hit him that hard that quick. MacMillan nurses provided my mum a shoulder to cry on in her grief. I relied on them to talk me “down from a ledge” every time I had been put off by a doctor lacking bedside manner.
Dad passed away June 2002. While it still hurt my mother and our family deeply, I shudder to think of what would have happened during his illness if we hadn’t had the dedicated help of MacMillan. If this sounds like an ad, it is. These people do great work. Nuff said.
